We are the Burnhams - cousins, business partners, pun aficionados, and wordsmiths.

We come from a long line of magazine editors, English teachers, and sermon-givers. Our childhoods involved script-writing for Thanksgiving, literary analysis at dinner, and storyweaving games at an old yellow table on long summer evenings. We are seafaring folk.

Liz runs a tight ship. She started her professional editing when she was a naval officer working at a government agency, joined and immediately took the helm of a graduate academic journal, covered non-profit writing needs, and managed a team of technical editors at an international development company. You will likely be working with Liz if you’re doing anything non-fiction or with a global bent.

Sophie fills the sails. Author of Sargassa and the other two books in the Ex Romana series, they also studied playwriting at Syracuse, worked as a scriptwriter in Hollywood, and worked with clients on memoirs. Sophie is a master of worldbuilding, plot twists, and dialogue. If your work is speculative, fiction, queer, or spoken, you’re with Sophie.

Nick rounds out the crew. An associate editor at a major publisher and a former bookseller at an indy bookshop, he’s the one to consult on pitches and what appeals to book customers.

We have some additional talent for heavy seas: John is a commissioning editor and digital media strategist; if you need to talk boats, blogs, or press releases, we will loop him in. Isabel and Martha are around for marketing and ad copy. We can even bring in some graphic designers for business needs.
